FAQ

What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method invented by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It breaks work into 25-minute focused sessions (called a 'pomodoro'), with 5-minute short breaks between each session. After completing 4 pomodoros, you take a longer break of 15-30 minutes. This method helps maintain focus, reduce fatigue, and boost productivity.
Can I customize the durations?
Yes. You can customize the work duration, short break duration, long break duration, and the number of rounds before a long break in the settings panel. Click the 'Reset Defaults' button to instantly restore the standard 25/5/15 minute configuration.
Does it work in the background?
Yes. The Pomodoro timer runs locally in your browser and continues even if you switch tabs or minimize the window. The window title displays the current phase and remaining time so you can check at a glance.
What happens when a phase ends?
When a phase ends, the timer plays a sound alert and flashes the page title. If you have granted desktop notification permission, a system notification is also displayed. If auto-start is enabled, the next phase begins automatically.
Does it save my progress if I refresh?
Yes. The timer state is automatically saved to your browser's local storage, including the current phase, remaining time, and completed rounds. Refreshing the page or reopening the tab will restore the timer state.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Press Space to start or pause the current timer, and press R to reset the current cycle. Shortcuts work when no input field is focused.
